What Is the Texas Education Freedom Account Program?
The Texas Education Freedom Account Program (TEFA) is Texas’s first school-choice program, enacted in 2025 and launching in 2026. It is administered by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and provides eligible students with state funds for approved educational expenses to give families more choice, for example to send their child to private schools or to homeschool them. The program has an initial $1 billion in funding, which is reported to be supporting over 100,000 student accounts in its first year.
Most participants will receive an account value of around $10,500 per year, while students with special needs may receive awards of up to $30,000. Homeschooled students who are not enrolled in a private school may also participate, with accounts capped at $2,000 per year for eligible expenses such as curriculum, textbooks, and educational materials.
Mysteries in Time is now an approved Texas ESA / TEFA vendor, so Texas families can use their Education Freedom Account funds to purchase our complete history curriculum packages.
