What Was Propaganda in World War 2?
A very important part of the Second World War was gaining the support of ordinary people. Countries such as Germany, Britain, the United States and the Soviet Union (Russia) all needed their citizens to support the war effort.
To do this, governments in cities like Berlin, London, Washington D.C. and Moscow used many types of propaganda. Propaganda is when information is presented in a way that is biased in order to persuade people that a particular idea or cause is right.
For example, the Nazi government in Germany used propaganda to convince people that Germany had been treated unfairly after the First World War, especially because of the Treaty of Versailles. They claimed that the Second World War was needed to restore Germany's power in Europe.
At the same time, Britain and the United States used propaganda to encourage their people to defend the world against the tyranny and brutality of Germany and Japan.
